In short:

  1. Five brands of female hormonal balance supplement rest on five distinct bases: buds at HerbalGem, standardised extracts at Nutri&Co, sage and chasteberry at Terravita, adaptogens at Jolly Mama, pure myo-inositol at Dynveo.
  2. The presence of phytoestrogens splits the shelf in two: Nutri&Co provides 60 mg of isoflavones a day, while Terravita and Jolly Mama do without them in their menopause and perimenopause formulas.
  3. HerbalGem states to the milligram the buds in its bottles and its menopause capsule, for instance 134.3 mg of lingonberry young shoots for 15 drops, and sells a separate capsule for each of the three menopause periods, at 24.50 to 25.95 euros.
  4. The 2005 Afssa benchmark sets the isoflavone intake not to exceed at 1 mg per kilo per day, or 60 mg for a 60 kg woman.

What a “hormonal balance” label is allowed to claim

The phrase “hormonal balance” has no regulatory definition. Brands use it for needs as different as an irregular cycle, the first hot flushes or a drop in energy after 50.

This vagueness contrasts with the precision of European law. Regulation (EU) No 432/2012 recognises a single nutrient in this area: vitamin B6, credited with a role in regulating hormonal activity. No plant currently holds an approved claim on the subject.

Formulas therefore stay cautious in what they print, and their composition is what sets them apart. Reading the ingredient list and doses tells you more than the product name.

Daily dose: what the formulas actually contain

The compositions below come from the brands’ websites, as of 11 October 2026. The last column shows whether each active ingredient is quantified on the product page.

Most formulas in the panel quantify each active ingredient. HerbalGem details the composition of its peri and postmenopause capsules, and publishes the doses of its menopause capsule and its bottles. The other differences concern the number of ingredients, the presence of isoflavones and the format.

A reading note applies to HerbalGem. The milligrams shown correspond to the quantity of bud used in manufacturing, not to the weight of a dry extract. This is an approach specific to gemmotherapy.

Phytoestrogens: the real dividing line on the shelf

Phytoestrogens are plant compounds whose structure resembles that of oestrogens. Soy and red clover are the sources most used in supplements, in the form of isoflavones.

The Afssa benchmark In its 2005 report on the safety and benefits of phytoestrogens, the French food safety agency (Afssa, now Anses) recommended not exceeding 1 mg of isoflavones per kilo of body weight per day. Source: Afssa, Safety and benefits of dietary phytoestrogens, 2005.

For a 60 kg woman, this benchmark gives 60 mg a day. Nutri&Co’s Menopause formula clearly states its isoflavone content, with its 300 mg of red clover standardised to 20%, which makes it easy to account for the rest of the diet.

Other brands have taken the opposite stance. Terravita presents its menopause complex as free from hormones and phytohormones, and Jolly Mama’s perimenopause formula relies on plants with no declared isoflavones. HerbalGem details the composition of its three capsules by life stage, and its peri and postmenopause capsules contain no isoflavones.

HerbalGem: buds dosed to the milligram

HerbalGem, a Belgian laboratory in the Inula group, works only with buds and young shoots. Harvested in spring, when the plant is preparing its growth, they are macerated to obtain a concentrate taken by mouth only.

Three capsules for the three phases of menopause

The brand has split the hormonal transition into three periods, each with its own formula in a box of 30 capsules. Perimenopause (24.50 euros) brings together apple tree, grapevine and raspberry, with a black cohosh extract. Menopause (25.95 euros) combines lingonberry, blackcurrant, hawthorn and red clover.

Postmenopause (24.50 euros) takes a different turn, with lingonberry, oak and ginkgo buds and a maca root extract. Ginkgo and hawthorn also appear in the brand’s circulation range, covered in our article on the blood circulation supplement brand to choose.

Bottles to adjust your dose

Apart from capsules, three buds with a feminine focus are sold on their own, at 18.90 euros per 30 ml. For 15 drops, the maximum dose, the lingonberry bottle provides 134.3 mg of young shoots, raspberry 111 mg and apple tree 89.3 mg. Between 5 and 15 drops are advised each day.

The brand links the apple tree bud to feminine comfort when hormones fluctuate. The raspberry bottle, indicated from 13, is traditionally associated with the cycle as well as menopause. Its place in cycle formulas is described in our comparison of PMS supplement brands.

All these products appear in HerbalGem’s feminine well-being range, with their full compositions.

Nutri&Co, Terravita, Dynveo and Jolly Mama: four ways to formulate

Nutri&Co, three standardised extracts for menopause

The 30-day bottle costs 29.90 euros, at two capsules a day with a meal. Fenugreek comes as a patented extract standardised to 50% saponins, alongside red clover and black cohosh. The brand does not recommend the formula under 18.

Terravita, the short and readable formula

Only two ingredients in the sage and chasteberry capsule, 15.90 euros for 60 capsules, or two months at one a day. The menopause complex (21.90 euros for a month) adds vitamin B6, the only active in the panel to carry the European claim on hormonal activity.

Dynveo, a single ingredient to dose yourself

Dynveo sells myo-inositol with no other active, as powder or 750 mg capsules, from 24.90 euros. The brand distinguishes two uses: 1 to 2 g a day for general comfort, 3 to 4 g when planning a pregnancy. Dynveo’s myo-inositol is particularly suited to supporting the cycle and pregnancy plans.

Jolly Mama, formulas by life project

Péri support, at 34 euros a month, is aimed at women from 35. The brand combines shatavari, milk thistle, sage and saffron, and lists its precautions plainly (pregnancy, breastfeeding). Its Pink balance powder, geared towards fertility, comes to 55.20 euros for 30 days.

Four questions to choose your formula

Question to askIf the answer is yesFormulas to look at first
I would rather avoid isoflavonesRule out red clover and soyTerravita menopause complex, HerbalGem perimenopause, Jolly Mama Péri support
I do not want alcoholPrefer capsules to dropsHerbalGem, Terravita, Nutri&Co capsules
I want to adjust the dose myselfChoose a single ingredientHerbalGem bud bottles, Dynveo myo-inositol
My budget is limitedCompare the 30-day costTerravita sage and chasteberry, €7.95 a month

These questions do not replace a discussion with a healthcare professional, but they help you reach the pharmacy or an online shop with a clear idea. Once a formula is chosen, most brands advise following it for three months before judging its value.

Hormonal changes can also be felt beyond the cycle, for example as water retention. Our guide to reducing bloating naturally covers this digestive side.

Before you start These supplements are not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Medical advice is useful in case of hormonal treatment, contraception included, or if the cycle suddenly changes rhythm. Combining two formulas that share the same plant brings no benefit.

How our rankings are established

Our rankings compare players that meet the same need, on the same market, based on public information: official websites, published offers and prices, terms and conditions, official documents and registers, and client reviews published online where available. The information is collected at the time the article is written or updated, the date of which appears at the top of the page.

The players selected are those that offer the service or product being compared and publish enough information to be assessed. Our rankings do not claim to be exhaustive. Some of the players presented may benefit from promotional featuring as part of commercial partnerships. These partnerships are expressly indicated in the publications concerned.

Each player is assessed against the same criteria: the scope of the offer and how well it matches the need, the verifiable characteristics of the service or product, price and terms where published, the support provided, the transparency of the information provided and, where they exist, client reviews published on third-party platforms. Each criterion is scored on the basis of information published by the player itself or by its clients, and the position in the ranking follows from the overall score obtained. When the editorial team could not find the information needed to score a criterion, it is marked N.A (not applicable, as the data was not found by the editorial team) and scores no points. A summary table presents the main criteria used and the assessment results for each company.

Frequently asked questions

Which supplement brand should you choose for female hormonal balance?

It depends on what you are willing to find in the formula. HerbalGem starts from buds, with doses published to the milligram on its drops and one capsule per period (peri, meno, postmenopause). Nutri&Co combines fenugreek, red clover and black cohosh, with 60 mg of isoflavones a day. Terravita relies on sage and chasteberry, or on a phytohormone-free complex for menopause. Jolly Mama works with adaptogens such as shatavari, and Dynveo sells pure myo-inositol. Choosing mostly means taking a position on phytoestrogens, alcohol and life stage.

Should phytoestrogens be avoided in a supplement?

Not necessarily, but it helps to know the amount. In 2005, the French food safety agency Afssa set a benchmark of 1 mg of isoflavones per kilo of body weight per day, or 60 mg for a 60 kg woman. Nutri&Co's Menopause formula is standardised to 60 mg of isoflavones a day, a clearly stated dose that makes it easy to adjust the rest of the diet. Terravita, by contrast, presents its menopause complex as free from phytohormones. Medical advice remains useful in case of hormonal treatment.

Drops or capsules: which format to choose?

HerbalGem bud drops contain 35% alcohol and are dosed at 5 to 15 drops a day, which makes intake adjustable. Capsules, at HerbalGem as at other brands, avoid alcohol (under 0.1% at HerbalGem) and are taken once or twice a day. The choice mainly depends on alcohol tolerance and the need for fine dosing.

What does 'quantity of plant used' mean on a label?

It is the amount of bud or young shoot used during manufacturing to obtain the daily dose, not the weight of a dry extract. On a HerbalGem bottle of lingonberry young shoots, it reaches 134.3 mg for 15 drops. This approach is specific to gemmotherapy, which expresses doses as the quantity of bud used.

From what age can these supplements be taken?

Most are reserved for adults. HerbalGem life-stage capsules are not recommended under 18, nor is Nutri&Co's menopause formula. HerbalGem's raspberry young shoot bottle is indicated from 13. Jolly Mama positions its perimenopause formula from age 35.
